October strongly suggests...

The Darkness and the Dawn: Empowered by the Tragedy and Triumph of the Cross
by Charles Swindoll

"Darkness covered the earth that day. The sun fled. From noon until three the darkness of death hovered over the hill where the Son of God was dying. As Christians we know the story well- the nails in His hands, the thorns on His head, the gambling soldiers, the taunting thieves.
Charles Swindoll invites us to, "Return with me to those epochal days when our Lord walked into the awful darkness- which He did not deserve- only to arise into the sunlit dawn of triumph, providing us a victory from which we shall never know defeat." Go with him and you will find that, as only he can, Dr. Swindoll uncovers new meaning in the Cross and the Resurrection for those who face death and darkness today. His fresh perspectives on these core events of faith can help you see beyond the darkness to the new light of dawn." (Taken from book excerpt)

Dr. Swindoll takes you into the the darkness and depth of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ on the cross. The pain, torment, suffering, and wrath of God poured out on our Savior and Lord. But in wonderful splendor raises our heads to the Hope and Victory given to us by such an unrivaled display of Love, Mercy, and Forgiveness encouraging us to live daily with a fresh blessing of Salvation.

September Thinks You Should Read...

Raising a Modern-Day Knight
By Robert Lewis

It seems that we are living in the day of Neverland. In a time where boys never grow up, even though they may age, they seem to never grow up into adulthood. Those few who seem to step into manhood often flounder in the uncertainty of what manhood is and how it is to be lived out. "Raising a Modern-Day Knight" lays out the need for a "Father's role in guiding his son to authentic manhood".

Playing off the image of Knighthood, Lewis encourages fathers to begin guiding their young sons into manhood through encouragement, model, and concreting achievements in manhood through ceremonies. He highlights the importance and need of the father's role in guiding his son into authentic manhood. Lewis uses the image of Knighthood; chivalry, cause, code of conduct, a vision for manhood, and process. A young man would begin under a knight serving and learning from him as a page, then to a squire, and then to Knighthood. All of which is surrounded by Biblical references and a Biblical definition of manhood.

This book is not another be wild, "you're programmed to be like x", to be a man. It genuinely deals with each man and the gifts God has given him and teaches them to be a Biblical authentic man in it.

I highly encourage ALL fathers to read this book, those who hope to be, and even those who may be floundering even now.

September Activities

Things to Note for September:

Rite of Passage
Friday/Saturday, Sept. 11 and 12
This event is for 7th-12th guys and their fathers or father-figure. The Rite of Passage is designed to be a ceremony of celebration into manhood. Men will gather around these young boys in prayer and charge them to be young men. We will be camping out, eating, enjoying manly fellowship and competition, and studying what Biblical Manhood really looks like. We want our boys to grow into godly men and not follow the false perceptions that the world ambiguously defines as manhood.
Cost: $30 covers all male family
Leave CLC Fr. @ 6:30pm. Event begins around 7:30pm and concludes at 3pm on Sat.
