Don't Check Your Brains at the Door: Know What You Believe and Why
By Josh McDowell and Bob Hostetler

This is an incredible book for all ages. It is primarily geared for teens and preteens but is a great read for young believers in the faith as well. The book deals with the many questions the skeptics, unbelievers, or young believers have about God, Jesus, the Bible, and the exclusive claims of the Bible. The book is written in a fun and engaging way with many stories to help illustrate the points and explain otherwise sometime difficult questions.

I encourage every parent to purchase or borrow this book. I would suggest that parents read it first and then go through it with you kids to help them grow in their faith and understanding of what we believe. It will also be a helpful guide for them to use (or parents) to answer the difficult questions from their peers as they witness to them.

Here is the excerpt from the back of the book.
"Don't Check Your Brains at the Door gives you answers that make sense to the toughest of questions. Internationally known defender of the faith Josh McDowell and co-author Bob Hostetler lace clarity with humor to expose common myths about God, the Bible, religion, and life and show how Christianity stands up to the test of fact and reason.
Become equipped to answer questions like:
-Is God a cosmic cop out to squelch fun and happiness?
-Did writers of the Bible stretch facts into legends?
-Is Christianity the only way to reach God?
-Jesus was a good teacher, but can anyone prove his resurrection?"

Don't let your kids become mindless mimics and drones of the world and not know what they believe or why they believe it! Help them grow in knowledge and in truth.

Doulos Day

Our first Doulos (Servant) Day is this Saturday, June 27th. We will be meeting in the CLC parking lot at 8:30am and will return around 12pm. We have two sites to serve at 1. Broadstreet Ministries and 2. an Abilene member whose husband is deployed in the military overseas is in need of help with minor yard work.

We will be dividing people up and sending them to their respective sites. Any adults with the ability to drive is greatly appreciated. We will have the church van but since there will be two sites we will need alternative transportation as well.

This was a video taken from my phone of our last Jr/Sr Retreat. We had a little bit of a wasp infestation and the boys thought they could handle the extermination. Enjoy!

Purpose

There are two reasons that this blog was created.

1. It is my belief that we cannot lead others further than where we walk spiritually. We must be growing in our faith and walk in Jesus Christ. Part of that growth comes from being challenge and encouraged by other believers. I am a big proponent of reading, especially Christian literature. One of the best ways to grow in your understanding and knowledge of God is to read about Him. Read how others are serving Him. Let them inspire you live out loud for Christ. Reading about God also helps you understand Him and His attributes. It's refreshing to read someone else telling the story of God or Jesus Christ in a way you had not thought about. It opens opportunity to meditate on the things of God in ways you might not have thought about.
Reading good Christian literature can help you grow in your knowledge of God.

So, this blog will be used as such. Each month there will be a Book of the Month. I will post the Title and Author (and maybe a pic, if allowed) and a brief paragraph summary of the book. It is to encourage you and give you suggestions of what things to put into your mind and meditate on. Put away the TV for a little bit and pick up a book. Life is short, learn all you can so you can help others.

2. This provides a quick and easy way to disperse information. In Student Ministry there is always something going on and having the ability to update things quickly or get announcements out about events, etc. is vital. So, let me recommend to click the "Subscribe to: Posts" at the bottom of the blog and click "Live Bookmarks". It will be an easy way to check to see if there are new posts available without having to move away from the webpage you are on.
Information on events, costs, registration, etc. will be posted here. There is also a place where you can leave comments. I'll try to read them often, but it is not the best place to ask questions. If you have a question about a book or event info it is best to call me at the church office or email me.

I hope you find this useful and a source of encouragement.

In Christ,
Bro. Adam
